A Note to our Visitors

The Independence Homeowners Association (IHA) as a group does not take an official position for or against any ballot issue. IHA is an organization whose purpose is to provide FACTUAL information regarding the issues. Both positive and negative aspects of all issues must be considered when weighing the benefits or detriments which ultimately affect our community. Before making a decision based on one single source of information, you as a citizen should determine what is right for you, including finding out where the information is coming from. The Independence Homeowners Association is completely transparent and provides references for all the information provided on the website and any literature distributed in the community. Names, phone numbers and email addresses at minimum are stated. We encourage those with questions to contact a member or board member directly.

Recap of May 21, 2009 Homeowners Meeting

A general meeting was held at the Civic center on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.

The agenda included officer elections, planning for Candidates Night, and an open discussion regarding future programming and planning.

The number of members in attendance ensured a free and comfortable exchange of information. The agenda was further optimally served when Guy Savastano affirmed the quorum obligation, and other requirements consistent with established by-laws, was met in order to perform the elections.

We also welcomed two new members to the group: Roger Lesh and Dan Horton. All were pleased to learn that Roger was especially interested in running for a Board Member position. Following a verbal summary synopsis of his background, interests and experience, Don Krolikowski offered Roger his place on the ballot for one of two Board Member positions. Roger graciously and enthusiastically accepted.

The ballots were consequently updated, the elections held and the results as tallied by Guy Savastano were conclusive: Kurt Hill and Roger Lesh are now Board Members and Jim Fletcher retained his Treasurer position.

Following a discussion of community needs and group focus, it became even more obvious that Candidates Night is clearly a proven service to the community and perhaps, an event that is uniquely associated with IHA.

While it was agreed that the details of the pending event would be discussed at a later date, various ideas were shared to stimulate thought. All agreed that the template for success will be based on the last Candidates Night event which objectively was well organized and well received by the community.

We also discussed the Independence Home days event in the context of whether we should have a booth, creation of a survey to query the community on perceived needs, etc.. Roger Lesh and Mike Zubic agreed to create a committee to develop a survey template.

Respectfully Submitted,
Mike Zubic
IHA Secretary
